Activity Update November 2015
There is a rumour going around that under all the sports wheelchairs we have a sports hall! Phil the physio is doing a great job of stacking the Rugby wheelchairs with the 8 new Basketball chairs we have on loan from the Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association.
As we now have bespoke basketball chairs it is a great opportunity for you to give this sport a go and join the newly formed Pinderfields Predators. Sessions are every Thursday at 6pm in the Spinal Unit sports hall.
Recently we have experienced two really different types of wheelchairs. The Boma all terrain wheelchair which is electric powered and climbs some serious hills and Mountain Trikes which are manually propelled by using levers. Patients were allowed to have a go and experience the uniqueness of these machines. In most cases these are not something patients would go out and buy now but it shows what is possible for the future. If you want to know more about these wheelchairs please get in touch and I can send you details.
I continue to run sports sessions every Wednesday with the upper limb cardio work out being the most well attended. It’s great to see patients getting stronger and fitter so they can maximise their rehabilitation programme. A special mention to Hazim the two Steve’s and Rob who really pound the circuit
Finally WheelPower have agreed to fund a Table Tennis coach to come into the unit every Monday for 12 weeks. In addition to this Boccia England are coming in once a month. Phil has also started running archery sessions on a Friday. It’s great to see sporting activities spread out over the week and help with the rehabilitation process.
