 Get Active

We are often being told to be more active. But this can be a challenging for Spinal Cord Injured people. WheelPower, the national charity for wheelchair sport, has recognised this and has provided certain Spinal Injuries Units with Physical Activity Advisors who can provide expert advice and support to patients with a recent spinal injury in the crucial early stages of rehabilitation. They can also provide advice and support to recently discharged patients who are struggling to stay active in their local communities.

Our advisor at Pinderfields is Kevin Plowman, a wheelchair tennis Paralympian and keen table tennis player, who will use his sporting experience and knowledge to support patients.

Kevin said. “I believe sport and being active is a great vehicle to regain confidence and wellbeing and to feel good about yourself. It does not have to be elite sport, any physical activity is beneficial. I am looking forward to showing people what is possible and the many opportunities that can help with leading an active lifestyle”

“I will be at Pinderfields most Wednesday’s so if you see me wheeling about and would like to chat about getting active or have questions on any aspect of your rehabilitation, please shout out. In the next few weeks I hope to introduce myself and offer assistance to all in-patients so I am looking forward to meeting you all”.
